Currumbin (Gold Coast) 28th - 29th October 2017

The Australia New Guinea Fishes Association (ANGFA QLD) in conjunction with ANGFA Incorporated (ANGFA National), are proud to present the world renowned ANGFA Convention for 2017. This is the largest event focusing on Australian and New Guinea fishes anywhere in the fishkeeping realm.

This year's convention is almost here.  We now need people who haven’t paid their delegation fees to join up in order to receive their shirt orders as final shirt orders is by Sunday 8th of October

Orders post this date will still be accepted – but they will not be available in time for Convention, and will incur a delivery fee.

Dinner orders were closed due to the venue's requirements, but we have an extension for 10 more people so if you want dinner register fast.

The line-up of speakers over the two days is finalised and is excellent featuring local and international experts.

The venue (Currumbin Wildlfe Sanctuary) have just finished their brand spanking new function room so we've got a fantastic venue.

There are heaps of great prizes being put in from our sponsors so we'll be seeing a lot of smiling attendees with something special to take home.

The guest speaker line up will be spectacular, drawing together Australian and International hobbyists, scientists and natutalists to present on a range of topics, covering some of Australia and New Guinea's rare and revered fish.

This is a great opportunity to attend the ANGFA biennial convention to catch up with old friends, learn more about fish and fish-keeping, aquatic plants, new fishy discoveries and take home a new species from the auction. It doesn't matter if you keep rainbows, gudgeons or gobies, angels, tetras or goldfish, in fact any type of fish or plants from anywhere in the world, this is the convention you need to attend, we hope will see you there! As with all things in life, the convention price has had a modest increase in cost to help bring to you the highest standard and a hassle free convention you have come to expect. But if you get in early, you can pay the early bird lower rate.

Venue

About the venue: The venue is the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, Currumbin (Gold Coast), located at 28 Tomewin Street, Currumbin QLD 4223, Australia (see http://www.cws.org.au/). The 2017 convention venue offers an exciting new venue idea for the ANGFA convention, combining a beautiful location, only minutes from the beach, a unique convention setting amongst the grounds of the Wildlife Sanctuary and best of all, all profits made by the venue go back into supporting wildlife conservation programs. The venue was chosen for its excellent location and unique opportunity to hold a fish convention in a wildlife conservation park.

The venue is located only minutes from the Gold Coast Airport saving you money on taxi fares. There are numerous accommodation options, from the budget conscious right through to those wanting to extend their stay at one of the many resorts right on the beach, numerous cafés, Surf Club, and Currumbin Creek and is only a few minutes from the airport.

The 2017 ANGFA Qld Annual General Meeting will be held at the venue on the Friday night of the 27th October. In another surprise, the venue will have a Friday night market where you can get a meal and maybe some unique gifts before or after the AGM. We plan to setup a merchandise table at the market so there will be more than one reason to get along to venue early.

Accomodation

As there is no accommodation physically at the Convention venue (i.e. the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary) ANGFA has approached two suitable located accommodation options a short walk from the venue, at the Royal Palm Resorts and Princess Palm on the Beach and have negotiated discounted room rate for Delegates.

Features and Changes

Once again, we've strived to kept convention cost as low as possible to ensure the weekend is affordable, but provide the range of activities that ANGFA conventions are renowned for. As a result, we'd like to point out some minor but important changes.

Firstly, we are requesting you book and pay as soon as possible as seating is strictly limited. Do not leave it until later in the year as we expect this convention to be sold out and bookings will be treated on a first come, first served basis. An early bird rate has been provided.

Secondly, ANGFA has committed to holding the traditional Saturday night dinner at the venue. But we need a minimum number to make this affordable for all so we request that consideration be given to booking your Saturday night dinner with ANGFA. Bring family and friends. Please support ANGFA if you can.

Thirdly, the Fish Auction is scheduled for Sunday afternoon and needs to finish by 5.30pm.

Fourthly, the AGM will be held on Friday night at the venue and includes discussion of ANGFA Regional Reports and other committee-related matters at the venue. The AGM starts at 6:30pm on the Friday and interested members are able to attend as there is no cost. The venue will have night markets on that night serving a range of fresh food options and gifts, so delegates can come along to the AGM and get dinner at the same location.

Finally, the venue offers a wide range of activities for the spouses, and the kids the venue itself, which offers a full day of wildlife experiences, themed venues across the road and plenty of beach and safe swimming options within 10 min walk of the venue and accommodation. More information will become available prior to the Convention. Some optional events will be organised to help unwind on the Monday after the convention. Partners, in fact all family and children, are more than welcome to attend these tours.

Convention Dinner

Saturday evening will again feature the Convention Dinner. The price for the ANGFA dinner will be $60 per head and will be held at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary. There is a limit of 100 people for the dinner so get in quick. Canapés will be served before dinner where you can order drinks from the in-house bar. As an extra treat and in keeping with the unique opportunity this venue offers, we will have a wildlife experience for all convention delegates that book Dinner tickets. This may include a tour of the sanctuary’s aquariums where there are a number of Australian Lungfish on display. More details to follow.
