New Fishes of Sahul

Post by AussiePeter » Wed May 04, 2016 6:43 pm

In case you missed it the newest issue of Fishes of Sahul was emailed out to folks earlier this week. It features articles including the description of the Red Neon Blue-eye, Pseudomugil luminaturs, an outstanding summary of the enigmatic Burdekin Rainbowfish, plus an article on Nurseryfish and Coal Grunter.

This issue represents a new era in ANGFA's journal. We have made the largest changes to Fishes of Sahul in its history (since the first issue in 1983, 33 years ago!). We have switched to producing and distributing Fishes of Sahul as a pdf file four times a year. Moving away from producing a printed quarterly version has greatly increased what we can produce. The number of pages has essentially doubled due to additional content (typically three regular articles plus our new ‘Fish in Focus’ series), a larger number of images and the page format has changed from A5 to A4.

We all owe Greg Martin a big thanks as without his massive time investment none of this would be possible. Greg is in charge of all the layout and design of each issue which is a huge job. The publishing committee (listed on the back of this issue), established in late 2014, has been hard at work building on the legacy of Fishes of Sahul to give members more of what they enjoy.

In June you can look forward to issue 2 with the story of the discovery and collection of the new rainbowfishes Melanotaenia bowmani and M. grunwaldi, an update on ANGFA’s Running River Rainbowfish project, new blue-eye records for Queensland and another Fish in Focus feature.

If you are not a member please sign up at www.angfa.org.au, it's only $20 for four issues!

Thanks Dirk, we really appreciate any feedback on Fishes of Sahul, positive or critical. We'd love to hear more about what our members like/dislike about it.

Cheers
