About half the freshwater fishes of Australia can be found in the various habitats of the Northern Territory so this is a timely addition to our information on these fish. The introductory 15 pages is well worth the price of the book - not many similar volumes provide the basic attitudes on native fish keeping for aquarium purposes as well as this one does.
The majority of the book succinctly covers each species under the headings Habitat & Distribution; Distinctive Features; Size; Food Habits; Breeding and Aquarium Notes. A half page colour photo follows within a page or two. Many of these are the work of Keith Martin and taken in his aquaria.
Obviously there is still a lot of knowledge still forthcoming about many of these fishes but this book goes a long way towards our understanding and is modestly priced as well.
