ANGFA Life Member — in memoriam
Tony Tucceri
Tony Tucceri's ANGFA story began at a single meeting in September 1998, when a chance visit — on the urging of his local aquarium shop owner, Eric Goelz — showed him "foam boxes containing these amazingly beautiful little fishes of Sahul" and photographs by Neil Armstrong and Gunther Schmida projected on the wall. "I fell in love with those fish instantly," he later wrote. When Ken Smales appealed to that same meeting for committee volunteers, warning the club might otherwise fold, Tony offered on the spot — beginning what he called his ANGFA "apprenticeship" in 1999.
He went on to serve for well over a decade as ANGFA's Honorary Treasurer and Membership Officer at national level, and in the same roles for ANGFA Victoria, while also becoming one of ANGFA Vic News's most frequent contributors — meeting reports, field trip write-ups and conservation updates spanning most of the 2000s and into the 2010s. In September 2009 he was awarded ANGFA Life Membership at the Sydney Convention, joining "a small group of fellow Life Membership recipients: Ron Bowman, Bruce Hansen, Neil Armstrong, Ken Smales, Andy Wattam and Dave Wilson."

Personal background
In "A Personal Note of Thanks to All", written for ANGFA News on receiving his Life Membership, Tony recalled that first 1998 meeting in vivid detail, and the friendships that followed: Ken Smales welcomed him onto the committee and introduced him to "the great Ron Bowman", at whose home the next committee meeting was held just before Christmas that year. "With the kindness and generous encouragement of so many ANGFA people, over so many years since 1998, I can only say that my own journey has been personally enriching and spiritually and emotionally rewarding," he wrote. Of the honour itself: "I was in shock… I really couldn't express my deep and sincere gratitude at the time… a very appreciative, humbled and very happy Life Member. I shall treasure this forever."
